Whithorn man faces rape charge

A former community council chairman appeared in private at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Wednesday accused of rape.

Francis O’Neill, 60, from Whithorn was also accused of lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour. He made no plea or declaration and was granted bail. The case was continued for further examination.

The accused resigned from his position with the Royal Burgh of Whithorn and District Community Council recently citing personal reasons.
