Whithorn group dissolves due to lack of interest

A LACK of community spirit is being blamed for the dissolution of a Whithorn entertainment group.

The Whithorn Summer Activities Group announced yesterday (Thursday) that it is to cease due to alack of support, and that the scheduled weekend entetrtainment to raise funds for the group had been cancelled.

Laura Kiltie of the group said: “It is with much regret that the Whithorn Summer Activities group has decided to dissolve. The comedy hypnotist show has been cancelled on Saturday night due to lack of ticket sales, and we would like to apologise to anyone who has already bought a ticket, we will return your money.

“Please believe we have tried to find a way to keep this event on, but without people there can be no show. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years by attending fundraising events, donating raffles, and sponsoring. There have been many community groups in the town that has benefited from the group. We have tried to organise free or low cost events and trips for children, young people and families, but to do this we need support at our fundraising events to bring in funding to do this - and this has not been happening.

“This year we have organised two events to make money - the talent show and the hypnotist - both of which have had to be cancelled. All other events - Santa’s grotto, princess party, beach days, trips, football and teh like - did not make a profit. The Gala day this year made a profit of £11. There will be a public meeting held in the new year to hand the constitution over to any new members who would like to take the group forward in the future. Thanks again.”
