Walkers found safe at Culsharg
AT ABOUT 6.30pm on Monday 11 March, the Galloway Mountain Rescue Team responded to a call from two walkers from the Edinburgh area who had been walking in the Galloway Hills and become disorientated on their descent of the Merrick.
The experienced walkers, a 57 year old man a 53 year old woman, contacted the police after they became uncertain about their exact position as darkness began to close in. Galloway Mountain Rescue were alerted.
Team Leader Mike McCann, who coordinated the search, said
“We were able to establish by speaking to them on the telephone that they were in the near vicinity of Culsharg Bothy, a well known landmark on the route to the summit of the Merrick on the path which starts at Bruce’s Stone, at Loch Trool. We deployed our Land Rover from Newton Stewart, with two team members and placed the rest of the team members on standby. There is a forest track which allowed the vehicle access to their location and they were safely located within the hour.”
