Walkers found in Forest Park
GALLOWAY Mountain Rescue Team were called out to help look for two walkers who went missing in the Galloway Forest Park last week.
At about 7.30pm on Wednesday, the team were informed of the two and their dog having become lost near Loch Fleet.
A total of 16 team personnel responded to the call along with police officers and local Forestry Commission rangers.
A search using the team’s 4x4 vehicles concentrated on the extensive network of forestry roads in the area around
Loch Fleet and at about 10.30pm the two walkers were found safe and well by team members searching with the newly purchased Land Rover Ambulance.
Team Leader Mike McCann said: “These were two experienced walkers who were suitably equipped for a walk in this area, however the fact they got disorientated highlights how easy it can be to get lost in the forested areas of Galloway. They did the right thing, found an identifiable location, telephoned the police using 999, and stayed there until we arrived.”
