Volunteers’ long service recognised
Members of the local Marie Curie Cancer Care Machars Fundraising Group achieved their year service award last Tuesday. Jayne Whannel, Jackie Scott and Ailson Gibbon have commited 5 years voluntary service to help raise funds and promote the local Marie Curie Nursing Service. The Volunteers were presented their awards by David Cameron Marie Curie Fundraising Area Manager for Southern Scotland. The Machars Fundraising Group was formed 6 years ago by local Marie Curie Senior Healthcare Assistant and Chairman Derek McIlwraith. Over the 6 years the group has went from strength to strength raising over �70000 which is spent locally to provide Marie Curie Nurses free of charge to local terminally ill patients at the end of their lives in their own homes. Derek Group Chairman said It is great and important that the volunteers are regonised for their hard work and dedication to Marie Curie, all the Group members work hard and work as a great team to ensure that all our events are successful but fun at the same tim

Jayne Whannel, Jackie Scott and Alison Gibbon have committed five years’ voluntary ser- vice to help raise funds and promote the local Marie Curie Nursing Service. They were presented with their awards by David Cameron, Marie Curie fundraising area manager for southern Scotland.
The Machars Fundraising Group was formed six years ago by local Marie Curie senior healthcare assistant and chairman Derek McIlwraith.
In that time the group has gone from strength to strength, raising more than £70,000 which is spent locally to provide Marie Curie nurses free of charge to terminally-ill patients in their own homes.
Derek said it was important the volunteers are regonised for their hard work and dedication, as all the group members work hard as a great team to ensure all events are successful but fun. He added that he looked forward to the group going from strength to strength over the next five years.
Marie Curie Nursing Service in Dumfries and Galloway is a vital part of the community and as the number of patients and families requiring the service year on year increases Marie Curie have to raise funds.
