Val's leap of faith to boost charity funds

A CREETOWN woman showed nerves of steel last weekend when she celebrated her 50th birthday by skydiving from 10,000 to rise funds for a cancer charity.

Val Nichol, from Greenview, was given the skydive as a present by her husband Billy and decided to use the experience to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, in memory of her mother who died of the disease.

Last Sunday, on Valentine's Day, a brave Val, and her family set off from home at five in the morning, heading for Fife to be trained and take part in the dive.

Afterwards, Val said that it was the thrill of a lifetime and although she was apprehensive at the thought of jumping out of the small plane, once her parachute had opened she was enraptured by the feeling of floating through the air.

Val's dive has raised 1,000 for the local branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care and Val would like to thank everyone who donated.

And Val added that she enjoyed it so much she can't wait to do it again!
