Teenager took quad bike on road illegally

A teenager who was given a present of a quad bike by his mother ended up with a £100 fine and six penalty points after taking the bike on a public road without insurance.

Kenneth Copeland, 14 Springwells Road, Stranraer, admitted using the unregistered quad bike on Gallowhill Road, in the town on July 29 last year.

Procurator Fiscal Lyndsay Hunter said the accused had taken the bike to the local playing fields with a group of friends.

Solicitor Ian Milligan told the court the family had not appreciated at the time that there was documentation needed while having a bike like that in a public place.
