Supermarket plans not yet submitted
PLANS for a supermarket and filling station on the outskirts of Newton Stewart have not yet been submitted by developers CWP.
However, the company say the plans will be lodged in the “very near future” and that the proposal is still fully on track.
James Harbison, representing CWP, said: “We have been trying to make sure that every little detail is correct before we submit the plans, which will include a retail impact assesment and various concultation documents.
“We’re still on track and hope to have the whole thing lodged in the very near future. We did originally say we hoped to have it in by May but we’re keen to submit it with everything in place.”
The plans, if passed, will bring an as yet unnamed UK supermarket chain to Newton Stewart, bringing it in line with all other significant towns in the region.
Opposition has grown towards the plans, with some claiming it would destroy the high street and impact heavily on local traders.
However, hundreds of townsfolk have been vocal in campaigning for choice and cheaper prices, welcoming the plans.
