Stranraer's Jessie wins £30,000

A STRANRAER resident is on cloud nine after scooping a whooping £30,000 with the People's Postcode Lottery.

The week got off to a fabulous start for retired nurse, Jessie Duncan, when People's Postcode Lottery ambassador, Jean Johansson, appeared at her front door with a massive cheque.

Jessie's postcode DG9 7AS was drawn as this week's Street Prize winner – and as the only player in her postcode area, she was awarded the entire prize pot.

A delighted Jessie said: "I nearly fainted when I saw the cheque. I never expected that I would win anywhere near that much. I still can't get over it. I've had a great afternoon with my neighbours who have been helping me celebrate with tea and cream cakes. The People's Postcode Lottery is such a good organisation because so much of the money goes to Scottish charities."

Jessie, who has been playing the People's Postcode Lottery since it first started, is planning to share her winnings with her nieces and nephew. She will also be making a donation to the Coronation Day Centre which has been threatened with closure .

She added: "It's great that I can give something back to the day centre. It's a fantastic place, which serves our community really well. I'm also going to give some of the money to my nieces and nephew because they have been so good to me. My niece is taking me to Greece next month and I'm really looking forward to it. Now I'll be able to treat her to a really nice meal."

Jean Johansson was thrilled for Jessie. She said: "I hope that Jessie has a fantastic time in Greece with her niece. After playing the People's Postcode Lottery for years, and supporting so many local charities, it's great for her to get something back. It's also wonderful that she has chosen to use her winnings to support her local day centre and I hope her contribution will help it go from strength to strength. "

A further 247 players in the DG9 7 area also got lucky – sharing the Sector Prize of 5,000 between them.

The People's Postcode Lottery is a community lottery, with 40 pence from the sale of every ticket going to charity. So far players have raised over 6 million for charities and community initiatives across Scotland.

Players have the chance to win a 30,000 Street Prize five times per month. To ensure your postcode is in the draw, sign up and register your postcode today at www.postcodelottery.com, or call 0808 10-9-8-7-6-5.
