On Thursday Stranraer Library celebrated the 20th Anniversary of the opening of the facility on the North Strand Street site.
Chair of the community and customer services committee, councillor Tom McAughtrie, who oversaw the development of the library 20 years ago, invited previous elected members as well as staff past and present and loyal library members to tour the newly refurbished facility and learn more about the new integrated services now available at the facility. Cllr McAughtrie was particularly pleased to meet Louise Brown, who in 2009 became Britain’s most prolific reader when she borrowed her 25,000th book and who recently borrowed her 250th book of 2014.
Cllr McAughtrie said; “The people of Stranraer and the surrounding area are now provided with a facility which can be seen as flagship across the region and reflects the loyal and tremendous use the service has received over the years. The new facility also provides a perfect setting for the excellent and dedicated staff to continue delivering first class services.”
