The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals continues to monitor the welfare of horses and ponies at the Kirkclaugh Equestrian Centre near Gatehouse.
Concerns had been raised again this week by members of the public about the condition of horses at the centre but SSPCA Chief Inspector Hamish MacKintosh said: “We are continuing to closely monitor the situation at this establishment to ensure the welfare of a number of horses kept there.
“At present there are no issues and we are satisfied that all horses are in good condition.”
In June last year, The Galloway Gazette’s highlighted the plight of the horses there after serious welfare issues were identified.
The SSPCA stepped in at the time and worked with local vets to improve the welfare of the horse and ponies. Some horses were removed by the animal charity while other were kept on the land while being monitored.
