Five fire engines were called out on Tuesday afternoon after a serious house fire broke out at Blackcraig on the outskirts of Newton Stewart.
Units from Newton Stewart, Gatehouse, Castle Douglas and Dumfries arrived at the scene plus an aerial rescue platform from Kilmarnock. Three supervisory officers also attended the blaze at the unoccupied house as fire fighters battled the flames for almost 12 hours before bringing it under control.
Extensive damage was done to the two storey property and one neighbour had to be evacuated overnight for his own safety.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Newton Stewart Fire and Rescue Service crew manager Rodney Burnett spoke to Galloway Gazette reporter Louise Kerr in the aftermath of the incident.
