Sentencing delayed on cemetery vandals

SENTENCING of the two vandals who destroyed almost 50 headstones in Kirkcudbright Cemetery has again been delayed.

Now Alexander McIntosh, 19, of Dumfries and Christopher Frost, 22, of Dalbeattie will be dealt their fate on September 30th after Sheriff Kenneth Robb was forced to defer sentence.

At a previous hearing, the sheriff had been concerned that social work reports on McIntosh had failed to be carried out and he contacted the prison to find out why.

But the court heard that no response had been received and no explanation given.

The sheriff said he could not deal with the case appropriately until he had the report in front of him and criticised prison staff for failing to act.
