SCOTTISH Water is entering the final phases of the Loch Ryan project, which will upgrade the waste water treatment and sewer network for Stranraer and surrounding villages.

To keep local stakeholders such as councillors, emergency services and community groups informed of the work there will be a community forum meeting in January at the new waste water treatment works near Leswalt.

The projects consist of many strands – including flood prevention, a new waste water treatment system, new sewers, removal or upgrading of storm pipes into watercourses, a new pumping station at Port Rodie and a long outfall pipe from Smithy Hill to Larbrax for treated waste water.

Stephen Hepburn, project manager, said: “Work recently started at Fairway to install new waste water infrastructure that will play a part in enhancing water quality in the burns and streams that feed into Loch Ryan. This is one of several small projects that feed into the overall waste water management.

“We are aiming for an April completion date for the work – although there may be some small remedial work after that, the lion’s share of it will be complete by then.

In the 2010-15 investment period, Scottish Water is investing £2.5 billion in water and waste water services in Scotland.
