School worker stole cash
A clerical assistant at Sheuchan School who admitted embezzling nearly £4000 from school funds appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
Margaret Breadon, 53, of Rocklea Avenue, Stranraer, had taken the money between July 1 and October 1 last year.
Defending, agent Margo Nicol said the accused had taken the money “on spec”. She was responsible for money at the school and had access to cash brought in by pupils and collected by teachers but she also took money raised at a school danceathon.
When the missing money was discovered she was confronted and resigned her position. Mrs Nicol added that Breadon was “in distress” about the situation and had given the solicitor £1000 towards clearing the debt.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb advised Mrs Nicol to take the money to the school as quickly as possible and asked for reports on the accused who will return for sentencing on November 20.
