Safe stolen from hardware shop

THIEVES targeted a hardware shop in Newton Stewart overnight on Monday, making off with a safe full of cash.

The burglars forced entry to Wright’s Home Hardware on Victoria Street at some point between 6pm on Monday and 8.30am on Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said: “We’re asking anyone who may have seen any suspicious vehicles in the area, or anyone acting in a strange manner prior to the incident, to contact us and let us know.”
