Rogue traders warning from council

Dumfries and Galloway Council have been forced to send out a warning about rogue traders in region after leaflets began to appear from so-called reputable companies.

The authority’s trading standards team have been made aware of unscrupulous traders distributing the leaflets claiming to be from well-known companies that work in the home improvement sector, leading to residents being misled in to thinking they are dealing with the real thing.

A council spokesman said: “If you have any doubts, or are unsure, about who has distributed the leaflets, our advice to consumers is that you should check who you are dealing with by telephoning the named Company or business by using the telephone number for that Company or business that appears in the telephone directory – and not the one on the leaflet.

“We recommend that if you need work done on your house to stop and think twice. Do not take the first person who calls at your door. Ask your friends, relatives or neighbours who they would recommend.”

If you would like advice about doorstep selling or any other consumer issue Trading Standards can contacted via the Citizen’s Advice Consumer Helpline on 08454 04 05 06.
