MACHARS Lions Club, a regular donor to Galloway Mountain Rescue Team, has boosted team funds at a recent presentation to team leader Mike McCann.

Machars Lions past-president and secretary Brian Heaney said: “The Machars community as a whole recognise the good voluntary work which the team do across all areas of Galloway. In spite of the fact that the Machars area is low lying, the team have regularly been involved in search and rescue operations over the years.

It’s for that reason, as a club, we want to continue our support for their efforts, particularly since they have recently incurred significant expense in purchasing new vehicles and opening their new base.”

Team Leader Mike McCann upon accepting the cheque said: “The new base, our vehicles and our equipment, are expensive to maintain.

“Without the fantastic support that we receive from Machars Lions, and of course our many other donors, we wouldn’t be able to provide the standard of service we do. We have already put in place a

maintenance and replacement plan to ensure we focus upon fundraising for future needs. This very much appreciated £200 donation will go directly into that fund.”
