Reprieve for listed house

THE historic Anne House in Stranraer has been given a three-month reprieve from demolition.

Councillors have agreed to delay a decision on whether to allow S&A Homes to knock down the category B-listed Georgian house with the intention of redeveloping the site as a retail unit.

The extension will give time for “all other avenues of use to be exhausted”, according to a council spokesman.

A campaign to save the house, which sits between Morrison’s car park and Port Rodie Filling Station, was started by locals when plans for its demolition were first made.
