Recycling centre gets thumbs up

A recycling centre for the Newton Stewart area came a step closer this week when Dumfries and Galloway Council agreed to capital funding for the project at Tuesday’s meeting of the Planning, Housing and Environment Services Committee in Dumfries.

A council spokesman said: “A planning review is in place and capital funding has been agreed. Work is continuing on plans for a schedule and there will be report back to the council in February for final decisions to be made.”

Mid Galloway Councillor Alistair Geddes said: “As far as I an concerned although I am pleased with the progress made I will not be satisfied until the decision is taken to provide this much needed facility and I hope that’s exactly what will happen in February.

“The people of Newton Stewart have had to wait far to long for this facility and the time has come to rectify this situation.”
