Ramblers on the Move

The Ramblers Group travelled to the Galloway Forest last Saturday for a day of hill walking. Unfortunately, the walk recce earlier in the week had discovered that the planned walk from Bruce's Stone to Loch Enoch and back down the side of the Buchan Burn was untenable due to the height of the burns and the undergrowth.

Undeterred, it was decided to walk the section of the Southern Upland Way from Glenhead to White Laggan Bothy (seen in the background). Once at Glenhead the route followed the very muddy path up to the Trostan Burn where an uphill detour had to be taken to find a safe crossing point as the burn was in spate and the ford well under water.

The route then continued up towards Mid Lump before descending to Dargall Lane and the forest road round the south of Loch Dee.

Once at White Laggan, a short break was taken before heading back on the forest road to the walk start. The day was rounded off nicely with a refreshment stop at the Stroan Bridge visitor centre.

The next walk, on Saturday 14th of July will be a 5 mile circular leisure walk from New Luce via the Caves of Kilhern. Meet at the Breastworks car park Stranraer at 10 am for car sharing or at New Luce Hall at 10.30 am.

Further details, if needed, from the Walk Leader on 01776 870247. New members are always welcome. Contact the Group Secretary on 01776 870247 for information.
