Two members of Cree Valley Community Council have objected to solar panels being provided to Newton Stewart Hospital by a renewable energy company.
Lark Energy spoke last month of plans for a solar farm between Wigtown and Newton Stewart are agreed, having been asked by the council, to provide panels at the hospital as a gesture.
Clifford Smithers said at Monday’s meeting of the council that he felt the panels should go to the Riverside Day Centre or another cause whose elevtricity bills aren’t otherwise covered by a health board or the government.
He said he’d been approached by members of the community who felt the same, adding: “To me, it feels like a waste of a good community asset.”
He was back in his thoughts by Neil Cairns but chairman John McNaught argued that by freeing up the money for electricity, it could be spent on other resources for the hospital.
