Publican loses driving licence

THE licensee of a Stranraer pub was in the dock at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday after being arrested for drunk driving.

Andrew McColm, 64, of Agnew Crescent, Stranraer, was banned from the road for two years and fined £500. Officers had received an anonymous tip of a possible drunk driver between Glasserton and Kirkinner.

The court heard officers made their way to Kirkinner where they spotted the car in question parked outside a pub. McColm later made his way out of the pub, into the car and drove off. He was stopped nearby and arrested when he failed the roadside breath test.

McColm’s solicitor told the court that he had been visiting a friend whose wife had recently died and it was suggested they go to the pub to meet other pals. Feeling sorry for his friend, McColm didn’t want to say no and the group had more to drink.
