Port William could have 54 new houses

AS MANY as 54 new houses could be built on the outskirts of Port William by 2024.

A map of the village in Dumfries and Galloway Council’s proposed local development plan document, which has not yet been finalised, shows two areas of potential development in the seaside village.

They are at a field adjacent to Port William School and on land on the shore front behind South Street.

The document says of Port William: “There are no remaining allocated sites left from the previous Local Plan … the allocated sites provide logical extension to the settlement.”

As residents nearby the proposed sites have received letters from the council informing them of the new potential housing areas in the local development plan, Port William Community Council will have discussions with social housing providers in Dumfries and Galloway to clarify their position on future housing projects in the village.

When contacted by The Galloway Gazette, both DGHP and Loreburn Housing Association said they had no plans in the pipeline to build houses in Port William.
