Police hail operation’s success
A recent police operation to target vehicle offences in the area has been a great success, said community officer Nicola McFadzean at Monday night’s meeting of the Cree Valley Community Council in Newton Stewart.
Constable McFadzean told the meeting that “Operation Steer” had resulted in 45 offences being detected and two vehicles being seized.
The CVCC secretary inquired if these were mainly drink drivers ,but the officer said only two drink driving offences were recorded.
The majority were no tax disc, no MOT certificate, no insurance, not wearing seat belts, using a mobile phone when driving and improper carriage of passengers.
The other recent police initiative, “Operation Punk”, ran for month and targeted anti-social behaviour, in particular littering and dog fouling, and resulted in three offences being detected.
CVCC treasurer Richard Kay asked if the monthly police reports to local community councils were to be stopped but Constable McFadzean said she had never heard that and as far as she was concerned it would be business as usual.
