Confirmation has been made that Dumfries Police control room will close from next Wednesday (May 28) as part of the reorganisation of Police Scotland.
South Scotland MSP, Claudia Beamish, spoke of her disappointment at the news.
She said: “Once again, we are looking at the loss of skilled jobs in the region and the latest shift to more centralised policing.
“When these proposals were first announced I said we would need clear assurances that communities in Dumfries and Galloway would not be disadvantaged in terms of local policing.
“Police Scotland have confirmed that following the closure there will be no change in how the public contact the police and have provided assurances that there will be no reduction in the level of service.
“If constituents have any concerns about the changes I would encourage them to get in touch with me so that I can raise issues with Police Scotland and the Scottish Government.”
