Pedley convicted of Stranraer rape

A MAN has been convicted of raping a teenager who he then left tied to a tree in woods.

The 17 year-old was abandoned by Leon Pedley who sexually assaulted her in March this year.

Pedley lodged a special defence of consent but was convicted on Monday of rape at the High Court in Glasgow.

He will learn his fate when he returns to the dock next month.

The trial heard how 20-year-old Pedley met the girl in Stranraer on March 13 this year.

The victim claimed Pedley grabbed her by the throat before also punching her in the stomach.

She recalled being “scared” and said Pedley tried to get her to carry out a sex act. He then tied her to a tree and had sex with her.

The court heard the girl was freed and Pedley then said he was sorry, claiming he did not want to do it, but she had “made him”.

Judge Lord Brailsford deferred sentencing until October 15 at the High Court in Edinburgh and put Pedley on the Sex Offenders’ register.
