Patsy’s twin tups make £150,000 at Dalmally
WELL-known farming journalist and Blackface sheep breeder Patsy Hunter and her husband Ian were speechless this week after selling their home-bred twin tup lambs at Saturday’s Blackface sales at Dalmally, Argyll, for a total of £150,000.
Patsy is the daughter of local Blackface breeder Graham McClymont of the Cuil, Palnure.
The price is thought to be a world record for twins.
One sold for £90,000 to a three-way consortium and the other went for £60,000 to a group that included the Finlay family from Blackcraig, Corsock, near Castle Douglas.
Patsy’s husband was at the Blackface sales in Newton Stewart the week before where he bought a half share in the top-priced tup: a £12,000 shearling from the Finlay family.
Patsy told the Gazette: “I am just so pleased for Ian, who lives for his Blackface sheep. He was absolutely delighted with the trade and never in a million years thought they would sell for as much.
“We were both thrilled to bits and will never forget the day … in fact we’re still recovering!”
