No raft race for Wigtown
THE annual Wigtown Community Festival will go ahead without a raft race for 2013 after the committee failed to find a organiser for the event.
Following a meeting of the town’s community council recently, it was announced that a fun day would take the place of the raft race, which has historically begun at Bladnoch Bridge and ended at Wigtown Harbour.
Community council convenor, Nick Walker, said seven council members voted in favour and none against a suggestion to pay up to £1000 for a selection of extra rides, laser-quest and other attractions for the fun day.
It is hoped the event can be held at Trammonford Park and will be supported by local fundraising.
He added: “Much of the cost for this will be offset by reduced insurance costs with raft race.”
No decision has yet been taken about whether the crowning ceremony and fancy dress would be held at the County Buildings or primary school.
