NHS agree to dentist summit

NHS Dumfries and Galloway have agreed to meet with elected members from Wigtown area committee and the public to discuss the provision of NHS dental services in Newton Stewart.

The NHS have plans to close dental provision in the town and move patients to independent dental contractors. But after opposition from patients in the area, Mid Galloway Councillor Alistair Geddes demanded a meeting with all parties concerned ahead of a final decision in June.

A spokesperson for the NHS said: “The Board has been undertaking a review of the salaried dental services throughout Dumfries and Galloway, a process which has been recommended by the Scottish Government. Details of the proposals are available in dental surgeries or on the NHS D&G website, and we welcome comments from the public on the proposals. All comments from the public and staff will be made available to Board members when they consider the proposals in June.

“We will therefore be very happy to meet with the area committee in due course to hear their views.”
