New manager for Newton Stewart Football Club

Newton Stewart Football Club, which plays in the South of Scotland League and is a member of the Scottish Football Association, has announced that George Grierson has been formally appointed as the new manager.

George will carry out his footballing activities, matches and training accompanied by Eric Philips and Kevin Deany. George played in goal for senior clubs Ayr United, Queens Park and Stranraer as well as several Ayrsihre Junior sides, with Eric also playing for Ayr United and junior clubs Auhenleck Talbot and Kilwinning Rangers.

Kevin spent time with Queens Park and captained Beith juniors during his football career and is still a useful midfield player. The three have been with Kilwinning Rangers in recent seasons where George was manager until the beginning of this year. He has coached at various levels and holds the EUFA C and D Coaching Licences. During his managerial career he took Ayrshire amateur side Winlinton Wolves into the Premier League in season 2007/08 and then enjoyed a successful time with Darvel juniors before moving to Kilwinning where they won the league in season 2012/13 before leaving them when they were holding down sixth place.

Newton Stewart secretary John McNaught said: “We as a club are highly delighted at landing a manager of George’s calibre and it just goes to show the strength and interest around South football. We are confident that he and his background staff will do well in this league and we are looking forward to an exciting season ahead.

“Although it has taken some considerable time, we are confident that we have now landed the best people for the job. In George, Kevin and Eric we have three very experienced footballing people and welcome them to Blairmount Park.”
