A pupil at the Douglas Ewart High School will be given a very special award this year for ‘personal achievement’ thanks to a well attended school reunion.
The organisers of the ‘Class of 73’ gathering, which took place last November, had some money left over from their big night out and rather than give it to school funds, organiser Laura McGaw contacted the others and suggested that a special award be given in their name. Everyone else agreed this was an excellent idea. On behalf of her classmates, Laura then purchased a handsome trophy from Briars Engravers in Wigtown and the first winner will be announced the school’s annual prizegiving ceremony.
Laura told the Gazette the award will go to someone who shows star quality at school, but not necessarily through an aptitude for academia.
