Mull of Galloway hosts abseilers
OVER 100 brave fund raisers disappeared over the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse railings on Saturday in aid of a cancer charity.
All volunteers, we are glad to report, were firmly secured at the end of an abseiling rope for their descent in aid if MacMillan Cancer Support, Dumfries and Galloway
Qualified abseil instructors on site were on hand to guide the fundraisers safely down to the ground, 115 steps below.
The adrenalin rush proved irresistible for some - they went back up to the top for another go!
After her descent, cancer suffererer Ellison Thompson of Stranraer said: "Without Macmillan I wouldn't have got through my cancer treatment They supported me at every step, and were also there for my whole family".
Co-organiser Angela McCormick from the Macmillan South of Scotland Fundraising Office in Biggar, said: "This is the first time that we have abseiled down the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, and on behalf of the Macmillan Cancer Support I would like to thank everyone who took part today.
"Not only those that abseiled, but also those who have worked hard behind the scenes to make it happen. We are indebted to the Northern Lighthouse Board who own and maintain the lighthouse, and to their engineer Barry Miller who has been here all day making sure that everything ran smoothly."
The event raised over 25,000
