Dumfries and Galloway MP Russell Brown have both praised the local communities as well as the agencies’ responses during the floods that hit the region over the Christmas period.
Russell Brown MP said: “This weather was unprecedented and we are fortunate that no one has lost their lives. However, it once again emphasises the need for people to support plans that can help tackle this flooding problem. I am hopeful that if the local community can be shown to fully back the schemes, the Scottish Government will offer its support as well. I also want to see an expansion of the SEPA flood warning scheme.”
“Having spent the weekend going around the region and speaking with those affected by the floods, I want to commend the response of local people and agencies. They also responded effectively to the floods. Whilst local people and the council will help with the clean-up, there is a lot of damage to the sea wall at Port William so I am also pressing for the council to take urgent action in repairing it.”
