Dumfries and Galloway MP Russell Brown has expressed his concern after a new report highlighted the low level of incomes in Dumfries and Galloway.
The report, released by the Scottish Parliament, showed that the average amount of disposable income in Dumfries and Galloway was £15,525 per head. This is significantly below the UK average of £16,791 per head and the Scottish average of £16,267 per head.
Mr Brown said: “For the average disposable income in our region to be so significantly below the UK and Scottish average is deeply concerning but not at all surprising. Local people are working hard to try and earn a decent living and yet they are handicapped by our low wage economy. If you combine this figure with the fact that prices are rising, it is no wonder that there is a cost of living crisis in the region that is being ignored by both the Scottish and UK Government.”
