Movie student Rebecca wins international festival prize
PORT William's Rebecca Walker, has been presented with an award from the US-based International Film and Video Festival.
The Outstanding Creative Excellence Created by a Student title was selected by a panel of judges around the world.
Making the presentation at a concert last Friday by Creetown Silver Band, which included a screening of the film, Mike Marshall of Breathing Space Productions praised her professionalism and the crew's teamwork.
The 20-minute film 'A Place Called The Port' was made in just three weeks with volunteers from Port William as their entry for the Calor Scottish Village of the Year Competition. It won the Southern Region title, narrowly losing out to the Isle of Barra for the national award. Barra then went on to win the UK Village of the Year title.
Co-director David Hirst said: "This was an excellent team event, but I am especially pleased for Rebecca who, as youngest member of the team, put in a huge effort."
Almost 300 copies of the DVD have been sold to raise funds for the Community Regeneration Fund. It is on sale at retail outlets in the village or on line at www.portwilliam.com.
