The Forestry Commission is investigating the possibility of opening another route to take logs out of the Moss of Cree after residents objected to the use of the single track road that exits at Lamachan View.
The residents’ group, the Carty Port Community Company, raised its concerns about the number and frequency of logging trucks travelling along the narrow road past their homes in June after the FC announced plans to fell 11,500 cubic metres of woodland, around 9000 tonnes of timber, from the Moss of Cree.
Regular meetings have been held since between the FC, Dumfries and Galloway Council and the residents but no solution to suit everyone has been found. After a meeting on Tuesday, an FC spokesman said: “The Roads Department was happy for another option to be explored further. FC has agreed to look into costing this.”
