Dumfries and Galloway Council has earmarked more than £6.3m to go towards essential upgrades in the region’s schools over the coming year.
At a meeting of the education committee yesterday (Thursday), councillors were asked to approve the package which includes major works at four secondaries and three primaries across the region.
One of the science labs at Douglas Ewart High in Newton Stewart is to be refurbished to provide a pab for the teaching of physics as a specialist subject and also as a teaching space for lower age groups.
Ongoing renovations of the Cochran Hall at Kirkcudbright Academy are to continue with a dinishing date of September 2015. Works there have been mainly outside but internal workis set to begin when this finishes.
Drummore Primary will also have ‘envelope’ external works carried out which are currently being designed by architects, and Annan and Lagholm Academies and Penpont and Sanquhar Primaries are also on the list for refurbishment works.
