McLeod to meet NMS Director over Costume Museum closure

SNP MSP for the South of Scotland Dr Aileen McLeod will shortly meet the Director of National Museums Scotland, Dr Gordon Rintoul, to discuss the proposals to close the National Museum of Costume at Shambellie House at the end of this year’s season.

Dr McLeod commented: “The possibility of Shambellie house closing is clearly of considerable local concern and its loss would not be good for the region as a whole. Shambellie house adds to the cultural and historical attractions that Dumfries & Galloway has to offer locals and visitors alike.

“I will be meeting Dr Rintoul shortly therefore to discuss the issue in greater detail than has so far been made available. As far as I am concerned there are a lot of questions which have still to be answered.

“I am firmly of the view that this is not a good proposal for this region and I hope that politicians of all parties can work constructively together to make sure Shambellie House does not close.”
