Man urinated in bus aisle

A MAN who urinated on a bus and offered youngsters alcohol while travelling between Castle Douglas and Creetown has been jailed for eight months.

Tom Watson, 31, of Kings Guest House, King Street, Stranraer, was heard by a fellow passenger talking in crude terms to two younger boys at the back of the bus after he embarked at Castle Douglas on January 21.

Fiscal William McKay told Stranraer Sheriff Court this week that Watson began talking in very loud tones during the journey at around 1.15pm before beginning to smoke and opening and closing a window. He offered the two boys cigarettes and alcohol.

The driver became aware of Watson’s behaviour and began to look for a safe place to stop, but Watson proceeded to announce he needed the toilet and began urinating in the central isle of the bus.

Passengers nearby moved to the front of the bus and the driver pulled in at Creetown where he contacted police. Mr McKay said it was clear Watson was under the influence of alcohol.

After his arrest, Watson was released into the care of Galloway Community Hospital for psychiatric assistance and was released that evening.

Upon his release, he made his way to the Keystore on Dalrymple Street, Stranraer, and attempted to kiss the shop assistant before another customer intervened. Watson continued his drunken jaunt by making his way to the home of an ex-police officer, knocking on the door and demanding to speak to someone called Emma. The man explained there was no-one there by that name but Watson became aggressive and began trying to push past him into the house. A neighbour came to help and the police were called, whereupon Watson was once again arrested.

Lawyer Margot Nicol said Watson had an alcohol depen- dency and was an unpredictable risk to himself and the public when drunk.

Sheriff Kenneth Robb said jail would keep Watson sober.
