Man to stand trial over crash death of 22-year old
Mark Hoare was killed following the crash on the A75.
A STRANRAER man is to face trial at Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court accused of causing the death of a young driver near Springholm, Castle Douglas.
Brian Shingleston, aged 58, Craiglea Avenue, Stranraer, denied the charge which claims his driving was to blame for the death of 22 year old Mark Hoare a year ago.
Shingleston appeared before Sheriff Daniel Kelly accused of driving a car without due care and attention or without having reasonable consideration for other road users on 24 January 2011.
The charge adds that while negotiating a left hand bend near Springholm, he caused his vehicle to cross the centre line of the road onto the oncoming lane and collided with a car being driven by Mr Hoare, who succumbed to his serious injuries.
Mr Hoare had been on his way home to Batley, West Yorkshire after proposing to his girlfriend in Stranraer that weekend.
A passenger in the car, Wilfred McCrorie from Castle Kennedy, was also injured.
Mr Shingleston, who has tendered a not guilty plea to the charge, will face a jury trial at Kirkcudbright starting on February 20.
