Man assaulted wife in pub

A Stranraer man was put on a year’s supervision at court on Tuesday after admitting knocking his wife to the ground in the pub where she worked.

Michael Lindsay, 45, of 53 Fisher Street, appeared in court for sentencing after admitting the offence on December 12 last year. The accused also admitted demanding customers leave the premises, pouring drinks away and throwing a radio and television set around.

Defence lawyer Paul Feeney said his client suffered from mood swings due to his ongoing battle with chronic fatigue syndrome.

His illness meant he drank too much from time to time. On this occasion things “snowballed”, said Mr Feeney.

Sentencing, Sheriff Daniel Kelly noted this was Lindsay’s third domestic assault incident and he branded the accused’s conduct “excessive”.
