Man charged with attempt to murder
A MAN was arrested following a dispute in a Wigtown home last Saturday night.
The 27-year-old man appeared in court on Monday having been detained in the Duncan Park area of the town.
Sergeant Gary Ferguson, of Newton Stewart police, said: “I can confirm that on Saturday, November 17, between 10pm and 10.24pm, a domestic incident took place within a dwelling house in the Duncan Park area of Wigtown.
“A 27-year-old male was detained within the dwelling and later arrested and charged in relation to the incident.
“The female victim was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where she was treated for her injuries, which were classed as non-life threatening.
“The incident was isolated and police are not looking for anyone else in connection with it.”
If anyone was in the Duncan Park area at the time and heard or saw anything untoward they should contact their local police office.
On Monday, Sean McCleary appeared on petition in Stranraer Sheriff Court charged with assault to severe injury, danger of life and attempted murder.
He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.
