Man admits growing cannabis
A man who admitted growing cannabis in his Creetown home was spared jail this week.
Stranraer Sheriff Court heard police arrived at the home of Daniel Bayes, 24, at 13 Harbour Street, on October 26 after a tip-off that he was supplying cannabis.
They discovered various items related to cultivation of the drug and Bayes admitted he had been growing it, but insisted his girlfriend was not implicated.
Fiscal Bob Morrison said: “The accused admitted he had been sending text messages offering to supply the cannabis. A value of £560 was placed on the plants.”
Lawyer Ian Milligan said Bayes was ashamed of himself even before he was caught. He added that he is in employment and would lose this if sent to jail.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb told Bayes: “If you’re in prison, then everyone else is safe from you growing drugs. However, I accept this was not a commercial operation.”
He imposed a community payback order of 250 hours.
