The Isle of Whithorn Gala has been cancelled amid a lack of volunteers to take it on.
Following the pattern that has formed across Galloway in recent years, the committee were happy to lend a hand but no one wanted the job of chairperson.
The gala is the latest to fall foul of what some call a lack of community spirit, with Wigtown and the Galloway Pageant in Newton Stewart being forced to put on a reduced programme due to a lack of help.
In years gone by, the Galloway Pageant formed the basis of a summer celebration for the whole of the Machars as well as Creetown, Gatehouse, Glentrool and even Glenluce before these communities decided to hold their own.
However, maintaining interest in these has been difficult and unless the Isle of Whithorn sees a last-minute reprieve, it will join the list of communities without a summer event.
