Staff and supporters of Merse House, a local senior care home in Kirkcudbright run by national social care charity Community Integrated Care, will be taking on Britain’s longest zip-wire this Sunday to raise money for days out, entertainment and activities for people living at the home.

Sixteen dare devil fundraisers will be tackling the zip wire at Laggan Outdoor Centre, based in Gatehouse-of-Fleet, Dumfries and Galloway. The group includes eleven staff members from the home as well as five family members and friends of residents.

The intrepid group will reach speeds of up to 45-mph, as they race down the 820 metre long zip line, which is 30m above the ground.

Irene Benson, Home Manager of Merse House, says: “Tackling the infamous Laggan zip line is a challenge that isn’t for the faint hearted, so this feat is a truly amazing example of the dedication of the staff taking part and our residents families. I’m so proud of the team for taking on this challenge and would urge our local community to offer their support by sponsoring the group.”

She adds: “Every penny raised by the group will allow us to offer even more activities and entertainment to our residents, who we are committed to offering full and happy lives to.”
