Irish Guard fined
A MEMBER of the Irish Guards working at Dundrennan Range has been fined by a sheriff after calling police because he couldn't find a taxi to take him home.
Ian Green, 37, pled guilty at Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court yesterday (Thursday) of misusing the emergency 999 call system by phoning it four times on January 16th.
The court heard how an operator received a call from Green at around 1.40am who complained that he couldn't manage to obtain a taxi to get him back to Dundrennan Range safely.
The operator warned him this wasn't an emergency and told him she would report him if he used the service again in such a manner.
Green then called again and claimed there was a robbery taking place at the nearby Royal Bank of Scotland, but this turned out to be false.
Four calls later and police were dispatched to the scene at St Mary's Street in the town where they found Green to be highly intoxicated.
He was interviewed later that day and charged.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb said: "I wonder if they ended up taking him home anyway simply to stop the troublemaking."
It was reported that the military were dealing with Green using their own channels, and he was fined 500 by the court on top of that.
A KIRKCUDBRIGHT man was fined 550 at the town's court this week for beating up a girl in a playpark in the town. Alexander Wright, 20, of Maxwell Wynd pled guilty to repeatedly punching, kicking and jumping on Emma Louise Goldie following a confrontation between the two in May last year.
The court heard how Miss Goldie had been out socialising in the town with friends when she spoke to Wright and an argument broke out.
They parted company but later that evening Miss Goldie made her way to Wright's home to confront him about earlier remarks when he lashed out.
He began punching her on the face and body before jumping on her back, knocking her over and kicking her.
She made her way outside where Wright followed and continued to abuse her.
Wright's lawyer said he regretted his actions and was apologetic about the events that unfolded.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb fined Wright 550.
A MAN who sold a gun to a friend without ensuring he had the correct firearms licence was fined this week.
Douglas Grierson, 59, of Begairn View, Castle Douglas found the revolver amongst family heirlooms and during discussion with a friend, agreed to sell it for around 100.
But it emerged neither of the men had the correct paperwork to buy or sell such items.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb said at Kirkcudbright Sheriff Court: "I assume the message has come home with emphasis that it is not safe to play with guns.
"But I recognise that this is not a case of the evil with which firearms enforcers seek to deal."
He fined Grierson 500.
A FISHERMAN has denied assaulting a man on a fishing boat in Kirkcudbright.
Grzegorz Mostowski, 24, of Millflats, Kirkcudbright plead not guilty at the town's court on Thursday of punching Krzystof Machnacz on the King Explorer boat on February 15th.
He will stand trial on June 17th.
