Investment boost for Stranraer

A number of projects to help improve Stranraer are being looked at. Dumfries and Galloway Council and its partners are working toward a vision “to reposition Stranraer and Loch Ryan as a distinctive and successful marine leisure destination”.

The building of a new public
slipway outside the marina in Stranraer will be investigated. Council officers will also consider the use of an existing slipway at Wig Bay, four miles away, as an alternative to building the new slipway in Stranraer.

To encourage anglers into the area, safe sea fishing points will be provided around Loch Ryan and at the East and West piers. Bird hides will also be placed around the loch.

The council has pledged £100,000 and to seek match-funding from the Heritage Lottery Townscape Initiative Project. If successful, this project will help improve street frontages.

A gateway project will see the entrances to Stranraer from the A77 and the A75 transformed with public artworks, giving a better impression of the town.
