Icy roads claim vehicles
A SUDDEN return to sub-zero weather conditions caused dramatic road crashes near Newton Stewart this week.
On Monday, a Minigaff woman was airlfited from the scene of an accident outside Kirkcudbright.
Kelly McCreadie sustained minor whiplash injuries in the collision on her way to work along the A755 between Kirkcudbright and the A75 at about 9am.
Her Vauxhall Zafira came into contact with a Peugeot 307 being driven by a 44-year-old local woman and the air ambulance was called as a precaution.
A police spokesman added: "Anyone who was travelling in the area or who saw either of these vehicles prior to the collision is asked to contact police on 0845 600 5701 or any police officer."
And on Wednesday a school bus en route to the Douglas Ewart High School slid off the road and toppled sideways.
The snowy road between Whithorn and Sorbie claimed the Stagecoach bus and pulled it off into a nearby field at around 8.15am.
Some of the pupils on board were thrown from their seats but no one was injured.
One pupil told the Gazette: "We came around the corner then sort of slid off to the left. We held on tight because we could see we were going off the road and a few people screamed but then we just came to a stop."
The emergency door to the rear of the bus was opened and the pupils were able to jump out onto the road.
The road was closed and later also claimed a car and a fuel tanker in crashes.
