Helen nails award
Helen Small with her husband Gavin
CREETOWN woman Helen Small has admitted she was “totally surprised” to learn she had won an award from Kilmarnock College.
The first the nail technician learned of her success was when she received a letter inviting her to attend an awards ceremony recently at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock, hosted by the college and supported by the John Mather Charitable Trust.
The awards reward and highlight worthy/inspirational students for their work and recognise how they have used their skills in business.
Helen said: “I felt so honoured and very excited that I had been chosen as one of their award winners. I put a lot of hard work into completing my courses – level three in nail services and an assessor’s qualification, which I completed on just one day a week attendance at the college.”
Helen was presented with her Certificate of Achievement from the principal of Kilmarnock College along with a prize of a nail kit. And she was joined at the ceremony by husband Gavin, her parents and children Mikey and Iona.
Helen, who is now teaching part-time at Stranraer College having last year set up her own business Helen’s Nails – The Learning Zone, said: “This is what I’ve always wanted to do. I love being able to pass on the skills and knowledge I’ve gained to my new students. Having the best possible training is a must for anyone to be successful.”
